Recognitions, Including Sojourning Sunrisers and Special Daze
There were no Special Daze to discuss, but we did hear from Sojourning Sunriser Ian Schatz, who traveled to Italy, Hungary, Norway, and Switzerland, visiting his daughter and former Rotary Exchange Students!
Then, we recognized Claire Ajina for her new position with the Humboldt County Office of Education!
Remembering Harry
At the April 13, 2018 RCAS meeting, we shared memories of Sunriser Harry Johnson, who passed away recently. Harry was an RCAS Charter Member, the second RCAS President, and the Governor of District 5130 for the 2000-2001 Rotary Year. Our condolences to his family and his many friends here and around the world. He will be greatly missed.
Every 15 Minutes
Every 15 Minutes is a national program that illustrates for high school students the importance of making responsible decisions, especially when they get behind the wheel of a car.
The program took place at Arcata High School on April 5th and 6th, and our Club helped with the organization and sponsorship. The event begins with a simulated car crash and closes with a trial. Locally, the programs are conducted at four year intervals, which allows most students to experience the powerful presentation during their high school tenure.
Izzy’s Week
Izzy Orsach, our Exchange Student from Austria, had visitors from afar! Her aunt and uncle came to Arcata to spend time with their North Coast-savvy niece! Izzy also talked about her Easter celebration.
About the Trinity River Restoration Program
Sunriser Andreas Krause is a Geomorphologist with the Yurok Tribe, and he works to restore salmon and steelhead runs on the Trinity River. He was also our Featured Speaker this week!
Andreas walked us through the ecological state of the river, and told us about the Trinity River Restoration Program.
