Recognitions, Including Sojourning Sunrisers and Special Daze

Several Sojourning Sunrisers stepped up to tell us about their adventures. Jennifer Coriell and Mary Crow spoke about their school trip to the East Coast, Steve McHaney talked about his trip to Oberlin, Ohio, where his son is studying at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Gregg Foster said that he recently returned from his new second home – New Orlieans, Randy Mendosa was in Southern California visiting his daughter who attends Occidental College, and Chris & Lisa Hemphill told us about their trip to San Diego.

Our Special Daze would have included a celebration of Cam & Lisa Appleton’s recent anniversary, but Craig Newman told us that Cam is laid up following his recent shoulder surgery.

We did sing “Happy 4-20/Happy Birthday” to Chris Hemphill, and his wife Lisa celebrated by providing brownies for all!

World Community Service in Yemen

Howard Stauffer briefed us on a project that our Club supported in Yemen. Working with the Yemeni Association for Reproductive Health, we helped fund the construction of a water tank and a much-needed restroom for women.

The State of the Humboldt Workforce

Our Featured Speaker was Michael Kraft. He works for Sequoia Personnel Services, and the main thrust of his work there is working with Humboldt County on workforce development and building the local economy.

Michael spoke with us about recent changes and trends in the local workforce, how our area compares with the rest of the state, and what we can expect as a result of these factors.

“I’ve got the whole meeting in my head!”
