RISE Calendar …
“Rotary Involvement Strengthens Everyone“
August 27 – Kevin Ebbert Memorial Trail Run in Arcata Community Forest at 9 am (but be sure to get there early). Sign up at any HealthSport location. Proceeds will go toward the Humboldt Bay Trail Fund, which will help to build the trail along Highway 101, including the section that is dedicated to Kevin’s legacy!
September 10 – Out of the Darkness Suicide Awareness Walk – Check in at the Arcata Plaza at 9:00 am.
September 10 – Join the North Bay Rotaract Club for its annual Fun Run! Starting at 10 am in Blue Lake, and supporting several local nonprofits!
October 7 – CASA Kids Walk – Starts at 6 pm at the Madaket Plaza in Eureka
October 14 – Walk to End Alzheimer’s – Meet at 10 am at Halvorsen Park in Eureka
Sunrise Briefs
- Our Sojourning Sunrisers included President Dustin last week. We also heard from Tim Overturf, Bob Johnson, Bryan Plumley, Sarah Wilkinson, and Terri Clark.
- Our Special Daze included only Tomas Chavez’s birthday, on August 11th, but that involved trips to Six Flags and Red Lobster!

Let’s Hear from North Bay Rotaract!
Sophie Saucedo, this year’s President of the North Bay Rotaract Club, was on hand to tell us about her Club’s plans for her year. She said that their areas of focus are Professional Development, Membership, and Public Relations. She also discussed their upcoming events, including next month’s Fun Run in Blue Lake.
More Than Ever, “Talk Matters”
Not long after she arrived in Humboldt County, Mary V. Gelinas wrote a book for the members of her new community – “Talk Matters! Saving the World One Word at a Time”. She spoke to us (and with us) about the importance of having respectful discussions with others, even when we don’t agree with them.
