“Rotary Involvement Strengthens Everyone

Now! – Time to pay up dem dues! (Remember that you have the option of paying in two installments.)
August 9 – Greet Inbound Exchange Student Isabella at the airport … at midnight!
August 14
–  We co-host the Pedal for Polio riders at Trinidad City Hall. The riders are riding from Crescent City to Petaluma to raise awareness and funds to support Rotary’s fight against polio. District Governor Bob Rogers is hoping for 100% (financial) participation.

August 27Kevin Ebbert Memorial Trail Run in Arcata Community Forest at 9 am (but be sure to get there early). Sign up at any HealthSport location. Proceeds will go toward the Humboldt Bay Trail Fund, which will help to build the trail along Highway 101, including the section that is dedicated to Kevin’s legacy!
September 10Out of the Darkness Suicide Awareness Walk – Check in at the Arcata Plaza at 9:00 am.
September 10 – Join the North Bay Rotaract Club for its annual Fun Run! Starting at 10 am in Blue Lake, and supporting several local nonprofits!
October 7CASA Kids Walk – Starts at 6 pm at the Madaket Plaza in Eureka
October 14Walk to End Alzheimer’s – Meet at 10 am at Halvorsen Park in Eureka

Craft Talk

For the second consecutive week, we were graced with a Craft Talk – a short presentation by new Sunrisers, to help us get to know them better. Last Friday, we heard from Sarah Wilkinson:

All About Beeks! Steve Sottong Discusses Beekeeping

Our Featured Speaker was Steve Sottong, who is a retired engineering librarian who now writes science fiction and other types of fiction. He also maintains web pages for nonprofit organizations and is a backyard beekeeper (also known as a “beek”). It was this last role that he spoke to our Club about on Friday.
