The North Bay Rotaract Club meets in the Plaza View Room at Jacoby’s Storehouse at 6 pm on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month.

A Quick Talk with the City Manager

Arcata City Manager Karen Diemer is always welcome at our meetings, and she was there to speak with us about a number of issues, including affordable housing projects and the Creek Side Mixed Occupancy project near the city limits.

All About Sophie!

One of the “rites of passage” that each new Sunriser must endure is telling the Club about herself and how she (or he) became a Sunrise Rotarian. Sophie Saucedo officially joined RCAS just a few weeks ago, but she has been attending our meetings for a few years now. Her Craft Talk started with her birth in Oceanside, California, and covered her academic and professional progression through high school, college (HSU), and earning her CPA and working with Jackson & Eklund.

Sophie also talked about last year’s solo trip to Thailand and Cambodia, about her hobbies, and about her commitment to Rotary (and Rotaract). She also told us about Abby Saucedo – the rescue dog she adopted in April.

This Year’s Inbound Exchanger

Thomas Spengler from is our Rotary Exchange Inbound Student. Thomas arrived at our airport on August 17th – jet-lagged and with bleary eyes. He recovered by Friday’s meeting, and he introduced himself to the Club.

The Challenges for Print Media

Sunriser John Richmond was our Featured Speaker, and he spoke to the history of print journalism, current challenges, and paths to its future.
