RISE: “Rotary Involvement Strengthens Everyone

Monday, August 13: Help welcome our new Inbound Exchange Student from Germany – Finn! He is scheduled to arrive at the airport at 5:28 pm. He won’t be there long before his Host Family, Andreas and Jen Krause (thank you for hosting), take him home. On the 13th, you can check to see whether his flight is on time by clicking this link: United Airlines Flight Status. He is schedule to arrive on UA 5555.
Sunday, September 9: “Out of the Darkness” Community Walk to raise funds and awareness for suicide prevention. Registration on the Arcata Plaza is at 9 am; the walk begins at 10 am.

Announcements

We heard from several Sunrisers regarding upcoming events, including a trip to the races and committee meetings.
There was a good discussion about providing relief to those impacted by the Carr Fire in the Redding area and the Mendocino Fire Complex in Lake and Mendocino Counties.


Rotarian of the Week / Mentorship Committee

President Ray named Brandi Easter the Rotarian of the Week, then she gave us a presentation about the Mentorship Committee! Brandi talked about the new “Red to Blue Pathways” for new Sunrisers.

New Sunriser Brandon Kakitsuka!

At our August 3, 2018 meeting, we greeted New Sunriser Brandon Kakitsuka! Brandon is a Financial Advisor with Edward Jones, and he is a former football player for Del Norte High and Humboldt State. He and his wife Kristyn (his high school sweetheart) share their home with dogs Jax and Grace.

What’s New at the Manila Community Resource Center?

Carol Vander Meer discussed the progress on the Manila Community Resource Center renovation. Carol subtitled her presentation “The Saga of Little House A”.

Cindy Bedingfield Returns With a Redwood Acres Update

Cindy Bedingfield, the CEO of Redwood Acres, last visited our Club in June 2016. She returned to provide an update on the multiuse facility, She also spoke about the role Redwood Acres is playing in helping victims of the fires in Shasta, Trinity, Mendocino, and Lake Counties.
