The Thomas Update

Our Exchange Student from France – Thomas Spengler – had some yummy news for us. First, he gave us an update on the International Fair fundraiser. This will help Thomas and other Rotary Exchange Students the opportunity to raise funds for the Western Safari Tour in late spring. They will be preparing dishes from their home countries for our gustatorial pleasure! Thomas also visited Dick Taylor Chocolates, which is always a treat!

Announcements and Recognitions

President AJ instituted a new segment – “Wait A Rotary Minute!”, which is intended to help our members learn more about Rotary and its various programs. This time, we took a look at Vocational Service. AJ also let us know that Crystal Perez recently purchased a new home, and he told us about several coming events. This part of the meeting culminated in the presentation of Mike Pazeian’s Blue Badge!

Humboldt County Update

Mike Wilson is the Supervisor serving Humboldt County’s 3rd District, which includes Arcata, Manila, and Kneeland. Mike grew up in Southern Humboldt, and following a brief stint at Humboldt State, he moved to San Francisco, where he earned his degree in Civil Engineering. After a “walkabout”, he returned to HSU for graduate school.

In 2005, Mike was elected to the Humboldt Bay Harbor District Commission, and he was elected to the Board of Supervisors four years ago. Mike discussed his job as Supervisor, and he also talked about the various challenges faced by our county.
