Welcome to the Sunrise Spirit –
the Weekly Newsletter of The Rotary Club of Arcata Sunrise
We hope that you will attend one of our lively Friday meetings,
whether or not you are interested in joining Rotary.
We meet (almost) every Friday at 7 am in the Plaza View Room
of Arcata’s historic Jacoby Storehouse.
We will not meet on Friday, June 24th, nor on Friday July 3rd.
We have returned to hybrid meetings.
Please join us, either on-site or online!
For more information and for the meeting links, please visit the RCAS Website.
Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create
lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.

For Openers …
It’s all Openers today – the video below shows our June 10th meeting in its entirety. As we do each year, we celebrated the Academic Top Ten Percent of Arcata High School’s graduating class. After greetings from RCAS President Ian Schatz, we heard from the Superintendent of the Northern Humboldt Union High School District, Roger MacDonald.
Following Mr. MacDonald’s remarks, Arcata High School Principal Jim Monge took the podium to introduce the students. The grade point averages for this year’s group ranged from 4.606 to 4.250! Here are their names:
Lila Rose Cohen
Serendipity (Seri) Welsh
Then Sunriser Jeff Stebbins came up to introduce this year’s RCAS Memorial Scholarship recipients:
Jude Ortega, who will attend the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton,
Grace Talty, who will attend the University of California, Berkeley, and
Serendipity (Seri) Welsh, who will attend the University of Chicago.
The recipient of our four-year recurring scholarship was Emily Nalley, who will attend the University of California, Davis.
The photo that introduces the video above shows the Scholarship recipients with the RCAS Scholarship Committee. From left to right, you see RCAS President Ian Schatz, Jeff Stebbins, Jude Ortega, Emily Nalley, Grace Talty, Seri Welsh, Bryan Plumley, and Jennifer Coriell.
Congratulations to all of the Top Ten Percenters, the RCAS Scholarship winners, and to their families and to the faculty and staff at Arcata High School!
