For Openers …

President-Elect Vanessa Griffin led our meeting as President Ian looked on through his Zoom window. Also on the line was Vanessa’s mother, Mary Beth!

We reviewed the Dates To Be Saved, including the Board Retreat on May 16th, and the Board Meeting on the following day. P-E Vanessa talked about our “Community Service with a Smile” – the Sunrisers and others who worked on the raised garden beds at Arcata Elementary School. We also received a reminder to sign up to support Sunriser/District Governor Dustin Littlefield at the District Conference this month. And we reviewed preparations for the Sunrise Scramble Golf Tournament, which will take place on May 13th.

Vanessa noted that one of the initiatives for the coming year is District Governor-Elect Jennifer Strong’s nudge to get us all working to improve the environment. To start, we can all determine our personal carbon footprint by visiting the Ecological Footprint Calculator (click to access the link). When you’re done. please email the results to Vanessa.

A Preview of the Coming Rotary Year

President-Elect Vanessa presented next year’s Rotary Theme – Imagine Rotary – and played a video featuring incoming Rotary International President Jennifer Jones discussing how Rotary can do amazing things – using our imaginations to transform and improve our world.

Vanessa then recapped our responses to the Fireside Surveys completed earlier in the month:

  • Taste of the Holidays will be an in-person event once again
  • We will focus on local projects
  • We will continue to work for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
  • We will see more fellowship activities and field trips
