Welcome to the Sunrise Spirit –
the Weekly Newsletter of The Rotary Club of Arcata Sunrise

We hope that you will attend one of our lively Friday meetings,
whether or not you are interested in joining Rotary.
We meet most Fridays at 7 am in the Plaza View Room at Arcata’s historic Jacoby Storehouse.

We will be “dark” (no meeting) on November 16 and 23,
but we encourage you to attend “A Taste of the Holidays”
on Thursday, November 15th at the Arcata Community Center!

A Little Taste of Taste?

Dick Johnson performs “Taste of the Holidays”. It’s our fundraiser’s theme song, written by Carl Ochsner (mostly) and Dick (a little bit). It’s based on “Thanks for the Memory”, by Leo Robin and Ralph Rainger.
The version in the video comes complete with subtitles!

Rotarian of the Week …

Your Editor, Dick Johnson (him again?) was subjected to a merciless grilling by President Ray which ended with the big reveal of his Rotarian of the week – Club Treasurer …

… Bryan Reeser!!

A Little Bayside History

Maggie Gainer wears many hats in our community – proponent of Zero Waste, and for many years, the Director of Economic & Community Development at HSU – but the chapeau she donned for our meeting last Friday revealed her as the President of the Board of Directors for the Bayside Community Hall!

Maggie gave a history of the organization, formerly known as the Bayside Grange, before telling us of her plans for the future. (Spoiler Alert – it involves a new roof.) Our Club will be part of the renovations, as our latest SWOT Project. (SWOT stands for Service With Our Talents.) Get your hammers and paintbrushes ready!
