Editor’s Note (or Confession)

Operating a camcorder is not a particularly complex task. Doing it well can be, of course, but just getting the little machine to record generally is not. However … last Friday, it proved too challenging for Your Editor. In my haste to drop my bacon as President Dustin rang the bell, I forgot one tiny thing – hitting the record button. I didn’t start recording until the end of the meeting, when I went to turn it off. This was the result (featuring President Dustin, Steve McHaney, and AJ Gonzales):

Although this edition of the Sunrise Spirit will gloss over wide swaths of our meeting, I did manage to take some notes, and I stole some PowerPoint files and photos. Journalism at its “finest”!

Sojourning Sunrisers, Special Daze, and Events

Bob and Susan Johnson recently returned from an amazing trip to Europe, where hobnobbed with at least one former Rotary Exchange Student. Terri Clark and Marty Lay went somewhere, but my notes don’t include the destination. (Sorry, TC!)

President Dustin then thanked the Sunrisers who attended the previous weekend’s District Training Assembly in Fortuna, including (roughly from left to right) AJ Gonzales, Ashliegh Diehl, Julie Vaissade-Elcock, Romi Hitchcock Tinseth, President-Elect Ray Noggle, Jessica McKnight, Maggie Kraft, and Jennifer Coriell.

Romi can (probably) explain this to you …

Dustin then showed us pictures from the “Oyster Feast” that took place the following day, as part of the Earth Day Cleanup and festivities.

We also wished Sarah Wilkerson a Happy Birthday (in song).

Izzy’s Week

Although I didn’t record the recap of Exchange Student Izzy Orsach’s week, I did create a short video of her PowerPoint file. Not as much fun without Izzy’s narration, but she did have a good time over Spring Break!

World Community Service Update – Part II

Howard Stauffer provided another World Community Service Committee update last week. This time he talked about projects that we support that involve schools. Here is a video of Howard’s presentation:

The Famous Foundation Final Friday Auction

In the words of our Club’s Foundation Chair Terri Clark, this edition of the semi-regular Foundation Final Friday Auction was “was a wild and juicy event”! Here are the list of donors and bidders … at least most of them …

  • Kyle Visser’s wife and sister-in-law have started a juice business, and he donated several bottles to the auction. These were purchased by so many people, I can’t list them all. Unfortunately, my failure to press the Record button means that we don’t have a video record of Kyle’s “testimonial” about the juice that he drinks most often.
  • Malinda Damme contributed a bottle of Moonstone Crossing wine, two tickets to the Eureka Symphony, and a gift certificate to Taste at the Humboldt Bay Tourism Center. The winning bid came from Karen Burgesser.
  • A package comprising a bottle of Tito’s Handmade Vodka with a matching Tito’s Candy Bento Box came from Terri Clark, and it went home with Dick Johnson.
  • Karen Burgesser donated a lovely pair o’pillows to the cause. These went separately to Julie Vaissade-Elcock and Romi Hitchcock Tinseth.

Once again, thanks to all who donated, purchased, and/or bid up the prices. We raised a total of $760.00 for the Rotary Foundation. But you don’t have to wait for the next auction to donate to this great organization – you can make your contribution online by clicking on the Foundation logo below:
