Now! – Time to pay up dem dues! (Remember that you have the option of paying in two installments.)

ugust 27Kevin Ebbert Memorial Trail Run in Arcata Community Forest at 9 am (but be sure to get there early). Sign up at any HealthSport location. Proceeds will go toward the Humboldt Bay Trail Fund, which will help to build the trail along Highway 101, including the section that is dedicated to Kevin’s legacy!
September 10Out of the Darkness Suicide Awareness Walk – Check in at the Arcata Plaza at 9:00 am.
September 10 – Join the North Bay Rotaract Club for its annual Fun Run! Starting at 10 am in Blue Lake, and supporting several local nonprofits!
October 7CASA Kids Walk – Starts at 6 pm at the Madaket Plaza in Eureka
October 14Walk to End Alzheimer’s – Meet at 10 am at Halvorsen Park in Eureka


Sunrise Briefs

  • Once again, President Dustin checked in with our “Sojourning Sunrisers”. Rina Brodhag got to meet up with Lori and Kate Breyer while she was on a working vacation in Hawaii. We also heard from Tami Camper and Carol Vander Meer.

  • Tomas Chavez and Terri Clark arrived bearing gifts! Praj White received his Blue Badge from Tomas, and Terri gave Lisa Hemphill her pin for reaching another Paul Harris plateau!

  • We heard some anniversary and birthday deets from Jessica McKnight (whose seventh anniversary involved the traditional salad), and others …

Youth Shall Be Served!

Our Inbound Exchange Student from Austria, Isabella (aka ‘Izzy’) arrived a few days before our meeting. So we made her give a short presentation!

And we also heard from last year’s RCAS Memorial Scholarship winner, Caroline Gainer-Wolski, who told us about her initial year at UC Davis, where she is a member of the campus Rotaract Club and the American Sign Language Club:

A Dumping Problem at Liscom Slough

Our Featured Speakers at our meeting were Pam and Ted Halstead. The couple has been battling the problem of illegal dumping in the Arcata Bottoms area – especially near Liscom Slough – for many years. They told us about their efforts to keep a beautiful area trash-free.
