Update from Thomas Featuring Valentunes!

Rotary Exchange Student Thomas Spengler told us about his recent adventures (which included a STOMP shout-out), then he joined several other members of the ARMACK Orchestra and AHS Madrigal Choir to perform two “Valentunes”. (Valentunes are a fundraiser for the two musical groups. Each year, roving groups of musicians serenade people throughout our community on Valentine’s Day.)

Recognitions

President AJ applauded our recent activities, including the pancake breakfast to support Arcata High’s Career and College Center, building garden beds at Peninsula School, the grand opening of The Bigfoot Taproom, RCAS Charter Night, and Oscar Night at the Eureka Theater.

Affordable Housing in Northern California

The meeting’s Featured Speaker was Dan Johnson of the DANCO Group. Dan talked about his organization’s affordable housing projects in Northern California, focusing primarily on local sites. He noted that his company currently manages 724 units, including 525 classified as affordable housing units, 153 market rate residential units, and 46 commercial units. One of DANCO’s more visible projects is “Bayview Heights”, which is located at 4th and C Streets in Eureka. This facility will have a total of 50 units – 25 of which are reserved for homeless veterans. This location will include onsite staff, as do most of DANCO’s residential projects.
