RISE Calendar …

“Rotary Involvement Strengthens Everyone

Craft Talk: Brett Watson

The first meeting of President Ray Noggle’s tenure featured a Craft Talk from Brett Wilson.

A Craft Talk is an opportunity for new Sunrisers to tell us about their lives and history. Brett told us what he loves about Humboldt County, and he talked about his businesses and his time on the Arcata City Council. (A tenure he is hoping to extend.)

Following his presentation, he was awarded his shiny new Blue Badge. And a new tradition began!

Happy Stuff

Susan Diehl-McCarthy gave President Ray a gift to start the happiness flow.

Ray also encouraged Sunrisers to join the Fundraiser Committee, to help shape our next big economic venture. We heard about RISE (and other) Events, and we were promised mimosas if we show up early!

Dick Johnson (aka Your Editor) was named Rotarian of the Week, and we are also grateful that Vanessa Griffin has joined our Board of Directors, as the Director of Vocational Service. She replaces AJ Gonzales, who is now serving as President-Elect.

We learned that PPP stands for Presidential Pet Project, not Puppies, Puppies, Puppies. Since President Ray already has six doggies, he’s looking for a project to define his term. If you have ideas, let him know!

Finally, we heard from several Sojouring Sunrisers, including Terri Clark, Gregg Foster, Tom Tellez, Chris & Lisa Hemphill, Lori Breyer, and Howard Stauffer.

Dustin Presents!

Past President Dustin Littlefield had some unfinished business that he attended to at the RCAS Meeting on July 13, 2018, He had some awards to present from his Presidential Year.

Dustin started with the Fellowship Awards, which were earned by the amazing Romi Hitchcock Tinseth, and the equally amazing Jessica McKnight!

Next up were the Visibility Awards, with Scott Heller and Dick Johnson recognized for their work to keep the Club’s “face” out there on social media and other places on the internet.

Rachel Damme and her sister Malinda Damme received Rookie of the Year Awards. They’ve done so much, it’s difficult to believe that they’ve been with us less than a year!

The Business of the Year sponsors three Sunrisers (and one Rotaractor, who was a staple at our weekly meetings). That business is Jackson & Eklund Accounting.

Finally, Dustin selected two very worthy Sunrisers as Rotarians of the Year – Lisa Hemphill and Nick Torres.

Stay tuned for more fun with President Ray!
