RCAS Memorial Scholarship Winners for 2018
Scholarship Chair Bryan Plumley and President Dustin presented Rotary Club of Arcata Sunrise Memorial Scholarships to deserving members of the AHS Class of 2018. Hanna Henry was awarded our 4-year scholarship – she will receive $1,500 per year toward her next four years of higher education. We also presented one-time scholarships to Carson Pope, Marlie Thornburg, Tatyanna Keeling, Janie Mendosa, Vanessa Pacheco, and Austin Kadle. We wish all seven of you the best of experiences at college. Congratulations!
Presenting the Academic Top 10% from Arcata High!
Per long-standing RCAS tradition, we honored the Academic Top Ten Percent of Arcata High School’s graduating class. In this video, each student is introduced by AHS Principal Dave Navarre, and he shares his memories of each of them.
Superintendent Chris Hartley Talks to the Graduates
Our Featured Speaker was Humboldt County Superintendent of Schools Chris Hartley. He mentioned that, when Chris was an administrator at AHS, President Dustin had a penchant for always getting to school on time. (Serious or sarcasm? Watch the video and judge for yourself.)
He also provided some kind words and advice to the Academic Top Ten from Arcata High School’s Class of 2018, as he also reminded the students that it was (and continues to be) a group effort. He acknowledged the contributions made by parents, the local Rotary Clubs, as well as the AHS faculty and staff.
“I’ve got the whole meeting in my head!”
