Our travelers included Scott Heller, who was in Barcelona; Chris Hemphill, who reported that he and Lisa had visited San Francisco; and Joyce Hinrichs, who attended the wedding of her daughter Kayla!

Then President Dustin recognized Cam Appleton, whose son recently joined the Fieldbrook Fire Department.

Matt Babich and AJ Gonzales share a birthday on March 19th, although they celebrated separately. (But maybe next year …) And Ed Christians provided a report of his March 3rd anniversary celebration with his wife Beth.

RCAS and the Wheelchair Foundation

At our March 23, 2018 meeting, Craig Newman talked about our Club’s long involvement with the Wheelchair Foundation.
In 2001, Sunriser Janice Newman (who served as RCAS President in the 2004-2005 Rotary Year) suggested that rather than offering our Featured Speakers coffee mugs, we would donate the same amount to the Wheelchair Foundation in the Speakers’ names. Since that time, we have provided a large number of wheelchairs to many people who truly need them. Each time we contribute enough to purchase a wheelchair, the Foundation provides us with information about the recipient and a photo. Craig had folders with these documents at every table. Great program, great RCAS decision!

Izzy’s Week

Izzy Orsach, our Rotary Exchange Student from Austria, had an interesting week, which ended with her first earthquake on the previous day!

Racing Across America for Childhood Literacy!

On June 12th, Michael Davies-Hughes plans to begin a bicycle ride that starts in Oceanside, California and ends 12 days later in Annapolis, Maryland. He will be one of only 38 riders who will compete in the solo rider division of the Race Across America.
Michael, a member of the Rotary Club of Southwest Eureka, has been an educator for nearly 25 years. He currently serves as the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services for Eureka City Schools. He hopes to raise funds for the Early Childhood Literacy Partners Program. Michael also wants to help people understand that ordinary people can do extraordinary things!
