What Has Thomas Been Up To?

Thomas Spengler – our Rotary Exchange Student from France – told us about his first Armack Jazz Band concert which took place the previous Friday, and then he caught us up on the rest of his week …

Recognitions & Announcements

President AJ showed photos of Sunrisers who participated in the previous weekend’s Adopt-A-Highway cleanup and the Veterans Day Flag Lowering event on the Arcata Plaza. District Governor Nominee Dustin Littlefield encouraged us to help the victims of recent wildfires with a donation to the District’s Disaster Relief Fund. (You’ll find the donation link at the bottom of this page.)

Allan Schmidt spoke with us about the Arcata Invitational Basketball Tournament, better known as the Jerry Paul AIBT. Allan is a former coach of the Arcata Tigers Basketball team, and he told us that he appreciated our Club’s involvement in the annual event. Later in the meeting (and in the clip below), Sunriser Bob Johnson provided background regarding how RCAS became the tournament’s sponsor.

Sandy Schmidt – aka Sandy In Honduras – spoke about her efforts to help ailing children in that country get much-needed medical help. On the recommendation of the RCAS World Community Service Committee, our Club supports her efforts.

As mentioned above, Bob Johnson talked about the AIBT, and he also provided some background about the origins of our Famed Fall Fundraiser – A Taste of the Holidays. His brief history lesson is contained in the video below:

About Being Mindful

Featured Speaker Heidi Bourne is the owner of Pacific Mindfulness – a small business in Arcata that teaches Mindful Meditation to its practitioners.

Heidi told us that we often function on “automatic” – being mindful allows us the opportunity fo become present, removing the filters that prevent us from perceiving the world as it is. Mindfulness, she said, is maintaining an awareness of what is happening in the moment.

Here’s how you can donate to Rotary’s Regional Disaster Relief Fund. Clicking on the graphic will take you to the District 5130 link (rotary5130.org). Once you are there, you can scroll down to find the CLICK TO DONATE button.
